If your partner has occasional bouts of jealousy that go away quickly, you have no reason to be concerned, and you can actually take comfort in knowing that your partner still desires you. However, if your partner displays signs of being overtly jealous, then you could have reason to worry.
Jealousy usually springs from being insecure, and this is not something that will go away overnight. If not addressed, jealousy only worsens with the passing of time. If you think that your partner will automatically stop being jealous, you’ve got another thing coming.
Remember that your jealous partner would probably feel that unless he/she binds you in the relationship, you will escape. Reassuring your partner in such instances rarely works.
The thing to remember in dealing with a jealous partner is that it is your partner who needs help and not you. Consulting a therapist who specializes in cognitive therapy in such situations is a good idea.
Since jealousy is something that develops over a period of time, your partner must be willing to overcome his/her bouts of jealousy in order for therapy to work. It is essential for your partner to be motivated if jealousy is to be overcome.
